What Are Tuning Forks and Why Do I Use Them in Sessions?

The first time most people see tuning forks in a healing session, they're a little surprised. They expected an adjustment table or maybe some crystals. Not a small metal instrument that looks like it belongs in a music room.

But by the end of the session, they usually ask me where they can get one.
Tuning forks are one of my favorite tools to work with, and I want to explain why. Because once you understand what they're actually doing, it changes the way you think about healing entirely.
What is a tuning fork?
A tuning fork is a two-pronged metal instrument that, when struck, vibrates at a precise, consistent frequency. You've likely seen one used to tune a musical instrument. The concept in healing work is similar, except instead of tuning a guitar string, we're tuning the body.
Every organ, every system, every cell in your body has its own natural frequency. When you're healthy and balanced, things hum along in a kind of coherent harmony. When something is off, physically or emotionally, that harmony gets disrupted. The energy gets stuck or chaotic or dulled.
Tuning forks work by introducing a clear, stable frequency into the body's energy field. The body, which is always seeking balance, responds to that frequency and begins to entrain, meaning it starts to align with it. Think of it like striking a tuning fork near a guitar. The guitar string that matches that frequency will begin to vibrate on its own. No one touched it. The resonance did the work.
How I use them in sessions
I work with a set of tuning forks calibrated to specific frequencies, each one corresponding to different areas of the body and the biofield. The biofield is the energetic field that surrounds and interpenetrates the physical body. It holds information about your physical health, your emotional patterns, and your history.
When I move a vibrating tuning fork through someone's biofield, I'm listening and feeling for areas of resistance, density, or distortion. Those areas often correspond to places where energy has been stuck for a long time. Sometimes years.
As I work, the sound and vibration help to soften and clear those areas. People often describe a sensation of warmth, tingling, or a deep sense of release. Some notice emotional shifts during the session. Others feel an almost immediate calm settle into their nervous system.
It's gentle work. But it can move things that haven't moved in a very long time.
Why sound and frequency matter
We are beginning to understand scientifically what energy healers have known intuitively for centuries: the body is not just chemistry. It is also electricity, magnetism, light, and sound. Healing approaches that only address the biochemical layer are working with part of the picture.
Frequency-based tools like tuning forks, sound bowls, and gongs work on layers of the body that physical manipulation cannot reach. They can access the nervous system, the emotional body, and the biofield in ways that feel subtle but often produce profound results.
In my practice I use tuning forks alongside chiropractic care, breathwork, Reiki, and life coaching because I believe whole healing requires working on the whole person. No single modality does everything. But together, these tools create conditions where the body can do what it was always designed to do.
Heal itself.
If you're curious about what a session with tuning forks feels like, I'd love for you to experience it.
